Do you have a plan for the next phase of your business?
While everything is moving so quickly, it’s easy to feel a bit lost. Business may or may not return to normal after the Coronavirus and you need to be prepared for that. The best thing you can do right now is to plan.
If you don’t have a solid plan for your business, you might miss out on some good opportunities, or get left behind as businesses across Australia adapt and improve.
Why develop a plan?
Committing your plans to writing helps to sharpen your focus and identify your priorities, and can be used as a benchmark to measure your progress towards achieving your goals.
Business plans are an essential management tool that tells you what you plan to achieve, how you plan to achieve it, and when you hope to achieve it by. Set time aside to assess actual progress against your business plan to keep your business on track, and update your plan as economic, market and individual circumstances change.
The primary purpose of your business plan is to map out a strategy and action plan for your business, but it also serves a useful secondary purpose as a reference document for external parties with an interest in your business.
Facing significant change can make people uneasy and upset, which is understandable. But in order to move your business forward, the best thing to do is to accept the idea that things will and should change. Try to adjust your mindset so you are comfortable with being uncomfortable. This will enable you to move quickly and jump on new opportunities as they arise.
Make the most of any downtime
If you’ve been forced to shut up shop and have found yourself with more time on your hands, try to make the most of it. You might use this time to improve some internal processes, conduct staff training, complete that new website project or look at your marketing efforts. What things have you been putting off because you didn’t have enough time?
